Reseda advances to Division III Championship

The Reseda Regents will face Franklin High School for the CIFLACS Division III Championship after knocking off Hollywood High by a score of 37-0.  It’s Number 1 vs Number 2 for the DIII Crown, with Franklin coming in seeded as the Number 1 team.  Reseda used a balanced attack on offense and, as always, played sound on the defensive side of the ball, giving Hollywood High no time to set their offense and run their sets.

Reseda will need to rest their bodies as the extra games can take its toll.  Let’s hope everyone is healthy and at 100% come Saturday, December 3.

Reseda will  take their 5 game winning streak to El Camino College against a Franklin team that lost only one game all season and hold an 11-1 record.  The two teams faced three of the same opponents, going up against Chavez, Hollywood, and Van Nuys.  Look for Reseda to be too much for Franklin to handle and come away with their first City Section title under Coach Alonso Arreola.

Here are the highlights from the game against Hollywood, who were outmatched by Reseda from bell to bell.  Jr. Ja’Lani Elison has been a stud during the playoffs.  He had three picks –  two pick 6’s – and should be a serious contender for All City Player in Division III.  The Regents look good overall as a team but will need to be on their A game come 11am December 3, 2016 at El Camino College. Both teams will look for Santa to deliver an early Christmas present wrapped in the shape of a City Section title.

The Pick:
Reseda 40-21

Reseda Regents advance to Div. III Playoffs.

Look for the Regents to run the table and advance to the CIFLACS Division III Football Championship.  What a great way to start your Veterans Day weekend with a victory on your home field.  Image by PopScout.

It’s that time of year boys and girls… playoff football.  In the Valley Mission League, the Reseda Regents took their bumps and bruises but finished with an 8-2 record and a #2 seed in the Division III playoffs.  The Regents take on Marshall of Los Angeles Thursday night, November 10, 2016 at 7pm.  Having gone unbeaten at home this season, posting a 5-0 record,  look for the Regents to run the table and advance to the Championship game held December 3, 2016 at El Camino College.

Coach Alonso Arreola, along with his coaching staff, do a great job working with kids and maximizing the most out of their potential.  Image by PopScout.

We like what we see out of veteran head coach Alonso Arreola.  He calls the plays for the Regents and has done a great job, along with his coaching staff, evolving throughout the season and staying true to what they do.  Possessing a multi faceted offense, showing the ability to run and pass, look for them to create serious issues for defenses during the playoffs.

On defense, seniors have shown up each week, leading by example.  Players such as #4 LB  Carlos Hernandez and Captain #22 S Leo Perales, make big time plays and should continue doing what they do during their playoff run.  The two go both ways and show true grit on the football field. Every team has that special player – or two.  Reseda is no different as #2 CB/SB Ja’Lani Elison has stepped his game up.  He’s only a JR. and – if he stays in the lab during the offseason – should get some serious looks next season from D1 recruiters.

Football is not a one man game, that’s for sure.  You play as a unit, win as a unit, and ultimately everyone plays their role. No matter how much limelight you get…your impact is felt, and needed, if your team wants to win and be successful.  Congrats to the Regents and good luck in the Playoffs.   Been a pleasure providing you guys with game film during the regular season..but at the end of the day, let’s get that Championship and bring it home ya dig.  Good luck during your playoff run.  Continue to believe in yourselves and play at a high level.  Take no plays off.

Take a look at some highlights of their game against cross town rival Van Nuys high school. The regents came away with a 20-0 victory.  Big time players, make big time plays, in big time games.
