Redondo Union Battle @ The Beach Tourney
Windward vs Bishop Montgomery 6pm

kayla padilla
2019 PG Kayla Padilla (white) chases down a Narbonne defender during their opening round victory of the Redondo Union Battle @ The Beach Tourney. Bishop Montgomery plays Windward tonight, November 23, 2018 at 730pm.

Will it be a three-peat for the Wildcats of Windward and UCLA bound Charisma Osborne in 2019?  By the looks of things, it appears the upper echelon teams have reloaded and should give Windward a run for their money.  Bishop Montgomery, still missing a big piece to their puzzle, will find out if they have what it takes to be considered an Open Division favorite and run with the Big Dogs tonight, during a semi-final match-up at Redondo Union. 2019 Sr. G Kayla Padilla is special as they come, giving her team a chance to win each time she steps on the court with her energy, scorer’s mentality, and high bball IQ.  Windward Senior Charisma Osborne, coming off a USA Summer performance where she balled with the best of them, looks up for the challenge, as she starts the season with a bulls-eye on her back.  We should see how special this young lady is this season… and it starts tonight during the semifinals of the Redondo Union Battle @ The Beach Tourney.

The Pick:
Windward

Redondo Union vs Etiwanda 730p

Look for Etiwanda and strong guard play from Joy Campbell to propel the Eagles to victory tonight against Redondo Union.  Image taken during the 2018 Redondo Union battle @ The Beach tourney.

Etiwanda looks ripe and ready to take on all challengers that get in their way to a ‘ship this season. The Eagles come at you with a full court press that make the best PG’s check their composure at the door. Couple that with strong, senior back court play and solid front court stud-muffins, it might equal a ‘secret’ recipe for success this season and beyond for the Eagles of Etiwanda.

lauren chaoRedondo Union has reloaded, becoming one of those formidable road-blocks Etiwanda will have to endure in order for them to capture a CIF title.  The Sea Hawks play a fun brand of basketball where robots are not allowed.  Everyone is required to take open shots, handle the rock, and show supreme confidence out there on the court.  Coach Marcelo Enriquez does an excellent job at empowering his players, letting go of the leash that so many other coaches are afraid to let go of.  In turn, it will equal a lot of wins for Redondo Union and the Lady Sea Hawks in 2018-19.

The Pick
Etiwanda

Mark Keppel Tourney
Rosary vs Sierra Canyon 730p

Savannah Felix asks for the rock during their 74-59 victory over Fairmont Prep November 21, 2018. The Royals will have to be stout tonight as they face the Trailblazers of Sierra Canyon. Tip off set for 730pm.  Image by Popscout.

Rosary might not have all the bells and whistles to compete at the Open Division level, but they sure have the heart and character to compete with the best of them. Look for the back-court play of Rosary giving Sierra Canyon all they can handle tonight during the 8th Annual Mark Keppel Gary Houston Invitational. Sierra Canyon, who seek to avenge a few lack luster seasons and ink themselves as back on the map, (hopefully) have shored up their defensive rebounding issues which hurt them in so many games last season.  The back-court running mates of De Jesus and Chevalier might be too much to handle for Rosary. It should be a barn burner indeed, allowing teams to get a feel of where they are, at this early stage of the season.

The Pick:
Sierra Canyon

ashley chevalier
Class of 2020 PG Ashley Chevalier was in beast mode during their 60-45 victory over Rosary Nov. 21, 2018. It appears this young lady has found a nice balance of attacking the rack versus playing it safe and dishing it to her teammates. Kudos.
