Etiwanda finishes strong

kessleredwards_etiwanda

Etiwanda (27-1, 10-0) weathered the storm on the road against Damien (2/8/2018), coming away with a 73-66 victory, capturing the crown of the baseline league during the process.  Their only defeat this season was during The Classic @ Damien, in with Rancho Christian handed them a 78-54 thumping for the Battlezone Championship, hosted by Corona Centennial. Since then, the Eagles regrouped and refocused, rolled off 23 wins in a row, and head into this weekend with super swag,  as we see who’ll be the 8 teams to represent the CIF SS for Open Division play.  Damien (22-6) finishes 6-4 during league play – tying Chino Hills.  Coach Mike LeDuc continues to log victories with another 20 win season (picked up #900 early on in the year). And even though Damien were not able to get over the hump during the regular season by knocking off Etiwanda, look for them, as well, to regroup and refocus, hoping to be the team that laughs last.

Cantwell SH (18-9, 3-5) vs St. Bernard 14-10, 3-5)
430pm Serra High – 3rd Place game

Cantwell SH has played Bishop Montgomery twice this season, giving the #1 team in the State a run for their money.  Cantwell is a Popscout Peeping Tom – an outsider looking into whether or not they will crack the code and be selected as one of the top 8 teams to make the CIF SS Open Division playoff bracket. Those selected get automatic bids for State Playoffs. We love the athleticism of both teams as they compete for third place of the Del Rey league.  Bishop Montgomery has locked up first place with an 8-0 record while Cathedral sits at #2.  St Bernard looks to gain some momentum, keeping their heads on their shoulders heading into the playoffs.  Jr. 6’9 F Romelle Mansel will look to have a home cooked meal in the paint tonight along with 6’2 Jr. PG Mook Harris  – who is as flashy as they come.  Both players will benefit tremendously from the rigors of the AAU circuit this summer, coming back next year as top recruits for the class of 2019.

The Pick
Cantwell SH

Crespi SR PG Brandon Williams
5 star Class of 2018 PG Brandon Williams (Arizona Commit) is back in the saddle at Crespi. Shot callin’ and big ballin’ indeed. Popscout

Crespi (24-2, 11-0 @ Harvard Westlake (21-4, 9-2) 7pm
Crespi looks to go undefeated this season during Mission League play.  Brandon Williams has been special and one of the finalists for Popscout Player of the year.  Top player gets a custom 13×19 action poster.  Both teams should get strong consideration for Open Division selection.  Look for the home-court of Harvard Westlake to be an X factor tonight.  Harvard Westlake is hoping B-Dub doesn’t feed off of the energy and enter the zone.  He’s special enough to counteract their fan base, taking his game to the next level.  Both coaches know each other well –  including the stuff that they run.  Should be a great game to end the regular season campaign.

The Pick:
Harvard Westlake
