Narbonne Gauchos – Ones to Watch

The City Section is shaping up to be a very competitive league this year.  The Gauchos will try to repeat as City Champions in 2017.  Image by PopScout.

Hold up wait a minute.  Teams who think they’re a lock to win the City Section Championship this year, better keep an eye out on the 2016 City Champion Narbonne Gauchos. Their squad looked pretty darn good at the Dorsey Fall League hosted by the Dons and Coach Gibs’.  The Gauchos don’t possess a lot of size  – at the current moment.  But who knows what diamonds in the rough they’ll pull from their current undefeated, nationally ranked football team.

Look out defending point guards…looks like we got another ‘slippery when wet’ ball handler running point for the Gauchos.  The lefty reminds us of Jamal Hartwell from Fairfax.  Can’t wait to see those two do the tango.  Image taken Saturday October 08, 2016 at the Dorsey fall League hosted by the Dons and Coach Gibson.

We really like what we see from the Gauchos. Coaching staff is on point – that’s for sure, team chemistry looks to be rounding into form (cohesion is what my coach Joe Weakley used to call it), and they’ve got a lights out shooter who can ‘pull the bow and arrow’ from long range.  PopScout also enjoyed their SF/PF, who handles the rock like a soldier and gets buckets for a team who won its first City Section title last year – and will definitely be on the radar, looking to repeat.  Take a look at the mixtape of the game against Loyola Saturday, October 08, 2016.  Loyola is undermanned this year but still shows poise and the ability to stay in games to the end.  Signs of a good coaching staff and believing in your system that’s been in place for quite some time.

The kid from Narbonne can shoot it from long range and went on a barrage – nailing 7 three pointers…Good Lord.  Better put a hand up and avoid going under screens ya dig.
