Muscle memory has been used synonymously with motor learning, which is a form of procedural memory that involves consolidating a specific motor task into memory through repetition. In other words…practice makes perfect. In order to become a great shooter, you must get up shots, at game speed, with confidence – time and time again. Along with many other factors such as feetwork, rhythm, etc.
The Braveheartz basketball Club has a shooting clinic on Sundays at Millikan Middle School from 9am-3pm. It’s geared towards anyone wanting to get more shots up and develop their shooting stroke. All players are welcome from any club or high school program. The door is open. 🙂 The clinic features two shooting machines to take your skills to the next level, and incorporates drills that get you into game situation- shooting positions, so that you simulate real game scenarios.
The knock on most clinics is that they try to alter your shot or get you to do things the way they want. This clinic allows you to come in and get up shots. Period. If,in fact, you want some help with your stroke, release, feet, etc. by all means they have someone on hand to help you out and get you over the hump. But at the end of the day, it’s all about becoming a great scorer and leading your team to victory. In order to develop those traits, it takes practice, practice, and practice – sorry Allen Iverson. It also takes a player to then apply what she/he’s learned to game situations. So just because you do the extras and have all the bells and whistles at your disposal, mentally you’ll still have to be able to show up at game time, when it counts. That’s a skill-set many basketball players need to develop as well, but that’s another article on developing your Mental Toughness. Put up or shut up buddy.
Wow…the Summer AAU Circuit is winding down but that doesn’t mean you have to stop working on your craft. See you Sundays at Millikan Middle School from 9am-1pm. Become great at what you do. It’s all about Muscle Memory at the end of the day.
Become great at what you do.
