Fairfax outlasts Chino Hills for Maranatha Title

It was a very good barometer indeed – getting a sneak peak at clubs as they tweak and adjust their strategies for the upcoming 2016-17 campaign.  Chino Hills looks good, but Fairfax looks to be a true contender as well – handing Chino Hills their first lost without star point guard Lonzo Ball (UCLA) during the 2016 Summer Block Party, hosted by Coach Tucker and the Maranatha Minutemen.  We should also note that Gelo was nursing a sore ankle and didn’t suit up. Should we put an asterisk by the victory? Some would say he definitely would have made a difference, considering he has been playing at a high level – sort of a ‘jack of all trades’ on the court this summer – showing true skills sets at the 1,2, and 3 positions. But at the end of the day, it comes down to a very, very good win for Fairfax and Coach Steve Baik – who can now say he’s the first coach to break Chino Hills’ win streak – the one he set himself.  Coach Harvey Katini was on hand to check out his old squad and  do some scouting for Rolling Hills Prep.

Fairfax has one of the best guard tandems in the city with Ethan Anderson and Jamal Hartwell shot callin’.  They rotate positions and both seem to play at a high level and most importantly, compete when it counts.  There’s an old saying from where I come from…Big Time players, make big time plays, in big time games. No excuses ya dig. Fairfax hopes to keep the momentum on their side as they start their annual tournament this week,Monday,  June 27, 2016.  Chino Hills is the favorite to win it again, after beating Crespi last year. Fairfax will have a say so in the results this year indeed.  PopScout will be on hand to provide action shots, interviews, and “under the hood coverage” on Championship Day.

Take a look at “under the hood” footage of the last 72 seconds from the Championship game where Fairfax was able to sink their free throws and weather the storm for the victory against Chino Hills.
