Cathedral High Dynamic Duo

Class of 2016 6’10 PF Lucas Siewert of Cathedral High shows promise for a 6’10 big.  If given the chance and put in the right opportunity, the kid will flourish at the next level.  Image by PopScout

LA Cathedral High had a very tough season.  Going 11-19 and 6-11 in their last 17 games.  The injury bug really took its toll this year on a team that was projected to make some noise on the Cali. Hoops High School Circuit.  The team did reach the third round of the playoffs before losing to Oakpark 69-66 in the Qtr. finals of the 3AA Division. Chemistry should be considered when players want to skip town and test their luck by transferring into a different situation.  Many believe Cathedral found out the hard way  by enduring a very tough, up and down season.

6’2 SR PG Milan Acquaah was a stud all year long.  Despite injuries and missing recruits for the Phantoms, he held his own and should make an immediate impact for the Cougars of Washington State.  Image by PopScout

WSU commit Milan Acquaah definitely showed why he is the number 8 player in CA based on ESPN rankings.  He was able to handle the rock with flair, make mid-range to 3 point shots with ease, excellent passer, and makes minimal “mental” mistakes.  He could’ve definitely used some help from transfer Deron Henson this season –  but the chemistry just wasn’t there once transfers were allowed to play after the sitting period. Just goes to show you that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. We do look for this young man to have a standout career at Washington State and surprise many NBA scouts about whether or not they should take a chance on him at the end of his collegiate career.

6’10 PF Lucas Siewart showed some good skillsets for a big.  Shoots well – is a stretch 4 – handles the ball well, and makes good decisions on the court.  Not a great shot blocker who will intimidate players but he does have good court awareness and nice feet.  DI schools better take a close look at this young man and don’t let this 6’10 big  slip through the cracks.  On a down side, we are a bit concerned about his motor – we do feel as though with the right team chemistry, coaching staff, and environment at the next level, he will be a stud.   The kid currently has a 69 – 2 star ranking from ESPN and has offers from Arizona State, Cal, Boston College, Creighton, Texas Tech, Tulsa, and Utah State.  Interesting to see where he lands and more importantly, if it’s the right fit.

Take a look at a few clips from the Redondo Union take Flight Challenge.  LA Cathedral takes on Long Beach Poly.  We spotlight Milan and Lucas as they “do their thang”.
