Redondo Union looks to get even

Redondo Union looks to even the score when they face Crespi for the second time in the 2016 CIF playoffs.  Redondo suffered a 89-71 setback on March 3, 2016 for the CIF SS Open Division Consolation Championship.  It was a tough pill to swallow for Redondo, who currently sits at number 4 in the State of CA and 10th nationally.  Interesting because MaxPreps has Crespi at number 8 and 23 nationally.  Strength of schedule must be playing a role.

Look for Redondo Union’s Coach Reggie Morris Jr. to employ a different strategy when The Sea Hawks take on The Celts March 19, 2016 at The Pyramid in Long Beach, CA

The first meeting didn’t go so well for Redondo Union.  Crespi came out smoking – hitting shots from all over the court – to take an early advantage and set the tone for the rest of the game.  Redondo Union tried to pressure Crespi which was a bad, bad, mistake.  Crespi is one team you want to have your thinking cap on, as a coaching staff, and determine what’s the best strategy to beat these guys – remembering that Coach White of Crespi is a mastermind at what he does – preparing his club to win. Redondo must go back to the drawing board and think of a way to approach Crespi and their talented, patient team.  Full court pressure may not be the best solution for a team who picks you apart and pushes the rock down your throat- looking for opportunities to score and change the momentum of the game.  Sr. De’Anthony Melton of Crespi (USC Signee) is the ultimate all around player – he scores on the blocks, hits the mid range to three point shot, pushes the rock coast to coast,  grabs boards and block shots, and makes big plays when his team needs a boost.  Dapper Dandy indeed folks.   No other player in Southern CA high school basketball puts his imprint on the game the way De’Anthony Melton does.  Not even Lonzo Ball from Chino Hills – if you can believe that hoop fans.

For Redondo Union to upset Crespi and advance to the State Final game in Sacramento March 26, 2016 at Sleep Train Arena, they must come out hot as a pepper and take the bull by the horns.  Redondo will have to play at a high level early on to put some fear in the hearts of Crespi.  Crespi looks to be on a crash course headed straight to Sleep Train Arena – looking for 2 State titles in as many years.  Redondo hopes the end of the road for Crespi is at the Pyramid and they sneak away with the win.

Take a look at the first meeting between Crespi and RU March 3, 2016 at Crespi High.  Crespi shoots well at home and is 8-0 in the 2016 playoffs –  on their home court.  Redondo Union is hoping a neutral site helps their chances to win and move on to represent Southern CA in the DI final.  Good luck to both squads.  Leave it on the line fellas.
