Crespi – and their Sr. Forward Mitchell Mykhaylov – will look to advance and represent Southern CA in Sacramento March 26, 2016 for the DI State Championship.  But first they must defeat Redondo Union.  Image by PopScout

It’s down to the nitty-gritty basketball fans.  The time we’ve all been waiting for.  March Madness…NBA Playoffs…and High School State Playoff Championships  The best teams competing at the highest level for all the marbles.  Makes me wanna lace ’em up and go play some pick up ball.  On the High School Circuit, Crespi and Redondo Union will meet again to see who’ll advance and play the winner of Menlo-Atherton vs Berkeley, who match up in the Northern DI final.   Crespi beat Redondo Union 89-71 March 3, 2016 for the Open Division Consolation Championship.  This was in their own backyard…the next site will be neutral.  Not quite sure how much that my have a factor into who comes out victorious.  Crespi seems to thrive on their home court – posting an 8-0 record at home in the playoffs.

I think it’s safe to say that Brandon Williams and co. truly benefited from Mr.Melton’s wisdom, knowledge, and passion for the game.  Image by PopScout.

Crespi stayed true to form, holding on for Victory over a solid, well coached St. Augustine squad.  The Celts show so much composure and, may we might add, sport the best coach on the West Coast CA High School Hoops Circuit. The team never seems to get rattled or should I say, expose their weaknesses to the point of defeat – primarily because Coach White pulls all the right cards.  A perfect hand indeed.  It was a good way to cap a season in which they currently hold 31 wins and 4 defeats.  Winning a State Championship will definitely make up for letting the coveted Mission League title slip away to Alemany.  Redondo Union and Crespi square off Saturday, 3pm at The Pyramid (Long Beach State) in Long Beach, CA.

Take a look at a few clips from the Crespi vs St.Augustine game (March 15, 2016), where we feature Crespi and their talented team who – time and time again – shows the uniqueness of sticking together and playing through adversity.  Remember that turnovers are part of the game. As a player,  you just have to try and limit your mistakes and play through them. Crespi shows a real knack at not hanging their heads – allowing them to make up for their mistakes every chance they get. A true testament to their coach and coaching staff. I must admit that Southern CA basketball looked pretty darn good this year –  with some nice squads doing some nice things.

Good luck in your quest for the title everyone.
