Take a look at a few clips from the 2015-16 John Burroughs Tournament where Chaminade squares off against Alemany. We spotlight Odom and Higgins, two Dapper Dandys indeed.
Chaminade will take on Long Beach Poly this Saturday March 5, 2016 at Azusa Pacific University to see who’s the best on the Southern Cali’ Girls HS Hoops Circuit. Chaminade has two standout players in Valerie Higgins and Leaonna Odom. Both have signed with major D1 schools and should make an immediate impact at the next level.
Higgins is a 6’1 combo guard who handles the rock with class, plays solid man to man defense, and can shoot the rock from mid range to three point land. She carried her team this year when Odom was out with injuries. This young lady is a high character athlete with a very good upside. She will definately make an impact at USC, where she has signed a letter of intent.
Odom is in a class by herself. The Duke signee, who is also a McDonald’s All American, is a threat whenever she handles the rock. Although we only had a chance to see her suit up once this year, she is something special to watch. Not only is she ‘fancy’ with the rock, she is very unselfish and is always looking for her teammates. She does everything very, very, well. Look for her to put in work as a Duke Blue Devil next season and for years to come in the WNBA or overseas. If there was ever a one and done in HS girls hoops then Odom would be the one.
Look for Long Beach Poly to give Chaminade all they can handle. Poly beat Chaminade early on in the season by the score of 50-39 at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona. Poly is a squad who will come at you from all areas on the court and allow you to make mistakes so that they can score in transition.
PopScout had a chance to see Poly play against Lakeside in the MLK Serra Tourney as well against Alemany on the road. The LBP girls are very team oriented, battle tested, and togetherness is what they practice and preach. It should be a close one going down to the wire.
